Riot Grrrl | Zine
This zine is part of a personal research project focused on the subculture, self-publishing and the alternative publishing scene.
In the early 90s in Olympia, United States; a group of young girls begin to talk with each other and organize themselves. In a countercultural music scene where punk, hardcore and grunge reign, they are tired of feeling intimidated by a violent and sexist environment, where they feel there´s no room for women. They feel objects, but not subjects. They want to stop having the role of girlfriends or groupies, they want to take the instruments and go on stage. They also feel that the model of feminism built up doesn´t represent them because it´s white, heterosexual and middle-class, therefore it doesn´t include a large percentage of the female population. These girls are also the ones who seek inclusion and multiculturalism, hence the ones who drive the third feminist wave.
